Salsa Beginner 2 7:00-8:00pm Beginner 1 covers the fundamentals of timing, rhythm, body movement, lead-follow connection, basic step patterns and partner combinations. Students learn principles of Latin dance and musicality and how to incorporate this into Salsa dancing. Beginner 2incorporates Beginner 1 repertoire - right turns, cross-body leads, veils, hand changes, basic steps in closed and open position - and adds to it: left turns, open-break turns, cross-body lead variation, turn combinations, free style technique and styling. Social dance practice with one-on-one assistance held at the end of each class. Music folders and video recording available.

Participants learn how to play basic Afro-Latin rhythms and dance the basic movements which correspond to those rhythms. The rhythms include: Salsa (Tumbao, Son Clave), including Salsa en Rueda, Makuta, Bembe, Rumba and Palo. Participants will also learn basic choral components.
This workshop is part of a six week series taking place on Saturdays 6:00pm at the Helen Newman Dance Studio: Map. Dates: 3/15, 3/22, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26 (at 1:30pm) and 5/3. ITHACA FESTIVAL PARADE, Thursday May 29 - ALL WELCOME! Palante will reprise a Comparsa Cuban carnival line dance as part of the Latino Civic Association parade contingent. Join thousands of Ithaca and Tompkins County residents at this beautiful procession of local musicians, artists, cultural groups and community organizations. All are welcome to rehearse and join our group. 5:30PM Meet at LCA parade in Fall Creek, exact location TBA. There we will review choreography and musical rhythms. 6:30PM Parade starts.
